Qatar Airways launches direct flights to Medan
Qatar Airways has taken another step in its global expansion by launching a direct service between Doha and Medan. Since Monday, January 15, 2024, the Qatari company’s planes have touched the tarmac at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, marking the company’s third destination in Indonesia.
This new air route strengthens Qatar Airways’ presence in Asia, bringing the number of weekly frequencies served by the company in this country to more than forty. It adds to existing routes to Jakarta and Bali, all operated from the award-winning Doha-Hamad hub.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Mohammed Al-Meer expressed his excitement about the expansion: “We are pleased to open this flight, which plays a key role in the development of our international network. Passengers will now have the opportunity to fly to Medan, a splendid city and one of the most beautiful on the continent, directly from our hub in Doha. »
Flights to Medan are operated by a 787-8 Dreamliner, configured in two class, accommodating 22 passengers in business class and 232 in economy class.
As an influential member of the Oneworld Alliance, Qatar Airways does not intend to stop there. The company announced that the Indonesian city is just the beginning of several new destinations planned for the year 2024. In its ambitious plans, the national carrier plans to launch direct flights to several European cities. These destinations include German cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich, as well as a new direct flight to Venice in Italy.
