Qatar Airways announces a codeshare agreement with WestJet

A lifelong aviation enthusiast, I closely follow the news of international airlines. On air-qataria.com, I focus particularly on Qatar Airways and all the airlines serving Qatar, covering new routes, fleet developments, partnerships, and news related to the Hamad International Airport hub.
Curious and meticulous, I enjoy analyzing developments in the aviation sector and sharing the latest and most reliable information on air travel to and from Qatar with you.
On October 26, 2026, WestJet and Qatar Airways unveiled a reciprocal codeshare agreement designed to streamline connections between major Canadian cities and the Doha hub, and onward to destinations across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Ticket sales under this new partnership began on Monday, for travel starting November 2.
The agreement operates in both directions, with each carrier placing its flight code on the other’s services:
– WestJet’s “WS” code will appear on Qatar Airways flights. Initially, WestJet will market – under its own code – direct flights operated by Qatar Airways between Toronto and Doha, as well as between Montreal and Doha. The Canadian airline plans to extend this arrangement to destinations beyond Doha in a later phase, for which no specific timeline has been provided.
– Qatar Airways’ “QR” code will appear on WestJet flights. For its part, Qatar Airways will place its code on select WestJet flights departing from Toronto and Montreal to destinations including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, St. John’s, and Winnipeg.
On a codeshare itinerary, travelers book a single ticket, benefit from coordinated connections, and have their baggage checked through to their final destination. In theory, this eliminates the need for extra queues or having to collect and re-check luggage mid-journey. Qatar Airways highlights a network of over 170 destinations, including New Delhi, Nairobi, Singapore, and Jeddah, that are now more easily accessible from Western Canada and the Maritimes.
Launch set for early November
According to the specialized website AeroRoutes, the first codeshare flights are scheduled to begin on November 2. The timing is significant, as Qatar Airways has also increased its service to Canada – from 12 to 14 weekly flights as of October 25 – now offering daily service to both Toronto and Montreal. Miles and Points
This is the question on the minds of all loyalty program members:
Regarding WestJet Rewards: The Canadian carrier states that passengers traveling on these codeshare routes will be able to earn WestJet rewards for their entire journey. A traveler booking a Calgary–Toronto–Doha itinerary through WestJet will therefore earn rewards for the full trip, including the segment operated by Qatar Airways.
Regarding Privilege Club: On its dedicated partnership page, Qatar Airways highlights the ability to earn Avios on every booking—offering “Avios at every stage” of the journey. Consequently, customers of the Qatari airline should be able to earn points in their Privilege Club account when flying on WestJet-operated flights sold under the “QR” (Qatar Airways) flight code.
However, to date, there have been no public details regarding earning rates by fare class, the recognition of elite status, or the ability to use points to book award tickets on the partner airline.
