Qatar Airways connects Doha to Almaty in Kazakhstan

Qatar Airways has inaugurated a new link between Doha and Almaty, its first destination in Kazakhstan.

Now, the Qatari national carrier offers two flights per week between its base in Doha-Hamad International and Almaty airport, operated by Airbus A320 that can accommodate 12 passengers in Business class and 120 in Economy. Departures are scheduled Monday and Friday at 12:55 am to arrive at 8:15 am, with return flights leaving the economic capital of Kazakhstan at 10:05 pm to land the next day at 12:20 am.

Qatar Airways has no direct competition on this route announced in January 2020, and postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic; the Oneworld alliance company only offers the announced flights to Nur-Sultan for the moment only in codeshare with Air Astana (which in turn connects Almaty to Dubai). Almaty Airport is also served from the Gulf by low cost Air Arabia in Sharjah, Flydubai in Dubai and Wizz Air in Abu Dhabi.

Almaty International Airport President Alp Er Tunga Ersoy added that he was “very pleased to welcome the first passenger flight out of Doha by Qatar Airways, one of the world’s 5-star airlines. We believe that this route will help develop relations between the two countries not only in terms of tourism, but also economically and culturally. I would like to express my gratitude to the management of Qatar Airways for their efforts to open this route during the Covid-19 pandemic ”.
