Qatar Airways transfers its cargo operations to Doha International Airport

Qatar Airways has decided to transfer its cargo operations to Doha International Airport (DIA).

Currently operating its cargo flights from Hamad International Airport (HIA), the Qatari national carrier will return to its former home airport and establish its cargo division there during the second quarter of this year. This move aims to improve its cargo operations, particularly as Doha International Airport has not hosted scheduled commercial flights for several years and is undergoing renovations to accommodate dedicated cargo operations.

“Our return to DIA will allow us to enhance our services and expand our cargo transport capabilities globally, connecting global markets more sustainably.” “For our customers, we want to optimize efficiency and quality and make our service even faster and smoother,” said Mark Drusch, Chief Cargo Officer at Qatar Airways.

“Our return to DIA underscores our close ties to our home base and reinforces the airport’s role as a central cargo hub in Qatar,” he added.

DIA, the former airport of the Qatari capital, will be upgraded to accommodate heavy cargo, e-commerce, regional freight, and large cargo volumes. Renovation and expansion work will be carried out over the coming weeks by MATAR to adapt to the national airline’s needs in terms of cargo handling capacity, specialized logistics infrastructure, and the management of large-capacity cargo aircraft such as the Boeing 777F.
