Air policy for Unaccompanied Minors on Qatar Airways flights
Children who have reached the age of five have the right to travel on a plane independently, unaccompanied by adults, with a passport and parental permission to travel.
Qatar Airways offers the transport service for unaccompanied minors when paying for the “accompanying child on the plane” service. Thus for children between 5 and 12 years old, this service becomes compulsory, and for older passengers it can be ordered as an additional option to ensure the peace of the parents.
The service is booked before or at the time of ticket purchase. For a flight served by Qatar Airways, the form with details of accompanying and meeting people is completed after purchasing a ticket and adjustments can be made until departure.
Parents or official guardians must check tickets at the airline office or ticket counters, general information about who meets them is entered into the database, and parents are given forms that can be completed immediately before departure.
It is important to remember that the number of seats on board for children with the escort service is limited, so before choosing a particular ticket or fare, you must first make sure that seats are still available.
Priority is always given to passengers under 11, for whom the service is compulsory, for older children, depending on the availability of seats.
Escort procedure
The child’s check-in for the flight takes place directly at the airport. To register, you will need the following documents:
– Passport and a copy of the child’s birth certificate;
– A completed application file with the contact details of the guide and the person who welcomes you (to be established at the registration desk or at the ticket office);
– Original consent to parental leave (notarized);
– Receipt of payment for the service;
– You may also need a visa for the destination country
– All documents are stored in a plastic breast pocket, which remains with the child until the end of the flight.
The child is picked up at the check-in counter by an air hostess who goes through passport control, customs inspection and escorts him to the crèche. Before boarding, the child is collected from the nursery and first put on board. Most airlines have the option of ordering meals in the children’s room while waiting for boarding.
During the flight, the child will be looked after by an employee of the airline, with special attention. On board, he will be fed, fun toys will be given to him and escorted to the bathroom as needed. At the end of the flight, the child will be the last to be removed from the flight and escorted to the person who meets them. The person met must be provided with an identity document, as indicated in the form. In the absence of a document or of the person who meets it, the child will be returned to the next flight.
The return of the child is carried out according to the same principle as the theft on the spot; only the accompanying person at this time is not the parent of the child, but a relative or an employee of the school. If the child has visited the country for the purpose of education, the staff of the educational institution will complete the necessary forms and register the child for theft.
In general, this is a great opportunity to send a child on vacation if the parents do not have the opportunity to accompany them to their final destination. The low cost justifies the guarantee of the safety of the child and the peace of mind of the parents.
Thank you very much. This is very helpful. My client has just found out that the escort charges are a full adult price for the escort. Can client request for a meet and assist instead of an escort, for a 15 year old and an 8 year old traveling alone one way HRE/DOH/MAN on the 22nd of July 2022?
