Qatar Airways unveils plan to return to London-Gatwick
Qatar Airways will begin operations on its route connecting Doha to London-Gatwick from June 2022. The number of frequencies between the two destinations will be increased to six per day.
The Qatari national airline will offer a daily flight from June 5 between its base in Doha-Hamad International and London-Gatwick airport, operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that can accommodate 22 passengers in Business class and 232 in Economy. . Departures are scheduled at 1.40am to arrive at 6.45am, with return flights leaving the UK at 9.00am to land at 5.35pm.
Qatar Airways will be on this axis, already relaunched in 2018 after seven years of absence then suspended in January 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in “competition” with the flights launched last December by British Airways, its commercial partner and the Oneworld alliance. The two airlines can thus “jointly offer more options between London and Doha and beyond, with their customers earning Avios loyalty points as they go”.
Four British airports will therefore be served this summer by Qatar Airways: London-Gatwick, London-Heathrow (5 daily flights), Manchester (18 flights per week) and Edinburgh (4 per week, 7 from June 2). UK passengers ‘can now’ enjoy seamless connectivity to nearly 150 destinations on the airline’s extensive global network via the world’s best airport, Hamad International Airport, connecting popular destinations in the Middle East, Africa, in and in the Pacific”.
